Directors of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporations
Help for directors of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander corporations applying for a director identification number (director ID).
If you’re a director of a corporation registered with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) or the Australian Charities and Non-for-profits Commission (ACNC), go to Apply for your director ID.
About director ID
A director ID is a unique number given to a director who has verified their identity with us. You must apply for your own director ID. It’s free to apply and you will only ever have one director ID. You will keep the same number even if you change corporation or company.
Who needs to apply and when
If you’re a director or plan to become a director of an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander corporation that’s registered under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (CATSI Act), you should apply as soon as possible.
For more information, visit the Office of the Registrar of Indigenous Corporations (ORIC) website.
Before you apply
Before you apply, get your identity documents ready. You’ll need both:
- photo ID such as drivers licence, passport or photo ID card issued in your name by a Commonwealth, state or territory government
- at least one other identity document, preferably your Medicare card, Centrelink payment summary, bank statement or a recent water, gas or electricity bill in your name, showing your address.
How to apply
The fastest way to apply for your director ID is online. You’ll need a myGovID to start your online application. Our step-by-step video will show you how to apply.
If you can’t apply online, there are other ways to apply. For more information and for help with your application, visit the ORIC website.
After you receive your director ID
Once you have your director ID, you must give it to your corporation’s record-holder. Your corporation must then notify ORIC. For more information, see Manage your director ID.
